Who Is This Course For?

This course is designed for individuals who intend to work on construction sites in Australia and are required to hold a valid White Card. It is suitable for people entering the construction industry, including apprentices, trades assistants, labourers, school leavers and job seekers.

Employers may also enrol workers who are required to complete mandatory general construction induction training prior to commencing work on a construction site.

Entry Requirements

To enrol in this course, participants must be at least 14 years of age and provide valid government-issued photo identification (such as a driver’s licence, passport, or school identification card).
Participants must have a basic understanding of English sufficient to complete written assessment activities and understand safety instructions delivered during training.

All participants must also have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) prior to the issuance of a Statement of Attainment.

Participants must be capable of undertaking classroom-based learning and participating in safety discussions and activities.

Course Overview

This course delivers the nationally recognised unit of competency:
CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry

The training is delivered face-to-face in a classroom environment over one (1) day, typically from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

The program provides mandatory general construction induction training and ensures participants understand construction site hazards, safety responsibilities and safe work practices in accordance with current work health and safety legislation.

All training and assessment is conducted by qualified and experienced trainers in accordance with the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).

Assessment Requirements

Participants are required to complete assessment activities to demonstrate competency in accordance with the requirements of CPCWHS1001.

Assessment methods may include written knowledge assessment, scenario-based questions, and practical activities designed to assess understanding of construction hazards, risk control measures, and workplace safety obligations.

All assessment activities must be completed to the required standard in order for a Statement of Attainment to be issued.

If you believe you may require reasonable adjustment or additional support during assessment, you must notify STAR Education prior to commencement of training.

Course Outcome

Upon successful completion of all assessment requirements, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for:
CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry

This unit of competency is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

In addition to the Statement of Attainment, eligible participants will receive a White Card issued in accordance with the relevant State or Territory regulatory requirements.

Successful completion of this course does not automatically grant construction site access. Participants must comply with any additional site-specific safety requirements imposed by employers or principal contractors.

Licensing Information

White Card requirements are administered by State and Territory workplace health and safety regulators.

Following successful completion of CPCWHS1001, STAR Education will notify the relevant authority in accordance with jurisdictional requirements.

The White Card itself is issued by the appropriate State or Territory regulator following verification of competency and identity.

STAR Education does not independently issue White Cards outside of the regulatory process. The card is issued under the authority of the relevant regulator.

Participants are responsible for ensuring they meet all current regulatory requirements applicable in their State or Territory.

Fees and Payment Information

The course fee for CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry is $140 per participant.

This fee includes training, assessment, learner resources, and issuance of a Statement of Attainment upon successful completion.

Payment is required at the time of booking to secure a place in the course. Enrolment confirmation is subject to payment and completion of the required enrolment documentation.
