Food Safety Information
This course is designed for individuals working in roles where food is prepared, handled or served. It is suitable for café and restaurant staff, catering assistants, kitchen hands, food truck operators, supermarket deli or bakery staff, school and aged care facility workers, and retail food handlers.
Employers may enrol staff to ensure compliance with food safety legislation and workplace hygiene requirements.

To enrol in this course, participants must be at least 15 years of age.
Participants must possess sufficient English language skills to understand food safety instructions, complete written assessments, and participate in classroom discussions.
All participants must provide valid government-issued photo identification on the day of training and wear enclosed footwear.
Participants must be capable of undertaking classroom-based learning and participating in practical food safety discussions and activities.
This course delivers the nationally recognised unit of competency:
SITXFSA005 – Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety
Training is delivered face-to-face over one (1) day, typically from 8:30am to 2:30pm.
The program provides participants with essential knowledge and practical skills required to handle food safely, prevent contamination, and comply with food safety legislation in hospitality and retail environments.
This course meets legal food handling requirements in Queensland, Western Australia, Northern Territory, Victoria, Australian Capital Territory and South Australia.
All training and assessment is conducted by qualified and experienced trainers in accordance with the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).
Participants are required to complete assessment activities to demonstrate competency in accordance with the requirements of SITXFSA005.
Assessment methods may include written knowledge assessment, scenario-based questions, and classroom-based activities addressing food handling practices, hygiene standards and hazard identification.
Participants must demonstrate an understanding of contamination risks, temperature control, personal hygiene, cleaning and sanitising procedures, and reporting obligations.
All assessment activities must be completed to the required standard in order for a Statement of Attainment to be issued.

SITXFSA005 – Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety
This unit is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
Successful completion of this course supports employment as a food handler in hospitality and retail environments in applicable States and Territories. Participants are responsible for ensuring they meet any additional employer or local council requirements relevant to their workplace.
The course fee for SITXFSA005 – Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety is $70 per participant.
This fee includes training, assessment, learner resources, and issuance of a Statement of Attainment upon successful completion.
