This course delivers the nationally recognised unit of competency:
TLILIC0001 – Licence to Transport Dangerous Goods by Road
The training is delivered face-to-face in a classroom environment over two (2) days. Training sessions typically run during standard business hours. The course includes structured learning activities, facilitated discussion, and assessment tasks aligned with the requirements of the nationally endorsed training package.
All training and assessment is conducted by qualified and experienced trainers in accordance with the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).
This course is suitable for:
• Drivers required to transport dangerous goods by road
• Individuals needing to obtain or renew a Dangerous Goods Driver Licence
• Drivers operating vehicles carrying placarded quantities of dangerous goods
• Employers looking to ensure their staff meet licensing and compliance requirements

This course provides the knowledge and skills required to safely transport dangerous goods by road in line with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
Topics covered include:
• Classification and identification of dangerous goods (Classes 2–9) excluding Class 1 explosives
• Documentation and transport requirements
• Vehicle placarding and signage
• Load restraint and segregation requirements
• Emergency procedures and incident response
• Driver and operator legal responsibilities
You’ll also develop an understanding of risk management, safe handling practices, and how to respond effectively in real-world transport situations.
To enrol in this course, participants must:
• Be at least 18 years of age
• Hold a current full driver licence as required by the relevant State or Territory authority
• Provide valid government-issued photo identification
• Have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI)
• Complete any required enrolment documentation
• Complete a short Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment prior to training
• Have sufficient English language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete assessments and understand safety and regulatory documentation
• Be physically and mentally fit to undertake duties associated with transporting dangerous goods by road
Additional requirements may apply when applying for a Dangerous Goods Driver Licence through the relevant State or Territory regulator, including medical assessments, driving history checks, regulator fees, and application timeframes.
Please bring the following items with you on the day of training:
• Valid photo identification
• Your driver licence
• Lunch/Snacks
All training materials, tea and coffee will be provided.
Participants are required to complete assessment activities to demonstrate competency in accordance with the requirements of TLILIC0001.
Assessment methods may include written knowledge assessment, scenario-based questions, and trainer observation. Participants must demonstrate an understanding of regulatory obligations, safety procedures, and transport requirements associated with the carriage of dangerous goods by road.
All assessment activities must be completed to the required standard in order for a Statement of Attainment to be issued.
If you believe you may require reasonable adjustment or additional support during assessment, you must notify STAR Education prior to commencement of training.
Upon successful completion of all assessment requirements, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for TLILIC0001 – Licence to Transport Dangerous Goods by Road.
This unit of competency is nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
Successful completion of this course does not automatically grant a Dangerous Goods Driver Licence. Participants must apply separately to the relevant State or Territory licensing authority and meet all regulatory requirements.
Your Dangerous Goods training must be used to apply for your licence within 6 months of completion. If this timeframe is exceeded, you may be required to complete the training again.
Dangerous Goods Driver Licences are issued by individual State and Territory authorities.
After successfully completing this course, participants must lodge an application with the relevant regulator in their state or territory. Licensing requirements may vary, so please refer to the state-specific information provided on this page.

STAR Education does not issue Dangerous Goods Driver Licences. Licences are issued by the relevant State or Territory authority following approval of your application.
Your Dangerous Goods training must be used to apply for your licence within 6 months of completion. If this timeframe is exceeded, you may be required to complete the training again.

The course fee for TLILIC0001 is $550 per participant.
This fee includes training, assessment, learner resources, and the issuance of a Statement of Attainment upon successful completion.
